Dee Feed

12/17/07 - So, after many requests, I finally managed to find the time to figure out the computer language and such etc to create an RSS feed for Little Dee. The feed xml file is here at Dee Feed

So far, I've set up a Dee Feed here at Livejournal. If anyone sets up more or creates widgets, let me know and I'll add them to the links column on my website.

Along with web tech stuff, things are well all around. I'm in Dublin, Ireland now. Staying with a very old and dear friend and her wife. For the holidays, another couple I'm good friends with who are living in Denmark are coming over to bake, explore, and generally muck about with us. Pretty happy days.

I'd add the feed to my flist, but I've had trouble with them in the past... sometimes, a whole crop of old entries gets dumped again, as if they were new onces, filling up the list with things I've already read. ~_~

So, sticking with the Web site for now...

P.S. All the wool rogues I know are very happy!

I have yet to start using rss feeds myself, although I think this may start it off for me.

So yes, whatever you like, but it's there if you want it. :)

And yay! Happy wool rogues!

The greatest thing since sliced bread. It's so cool that the name itself is a giveaway: Really Simple Syndication.

Analogy Time
You can run all over town and ask people about the news - ask the butcher about the price of meat, the candlestick maker about tallow, the baker about day old bread sales.

OR you can subscribe to the local paper. Daily, the paper boy leaves the newspaper on your porch, with all of the news racked, stacked and listed for your reading pleasure.

Replace 'town' with 'internet'. Replace daily newspaper with RSS feed. The content comes to you. There will be a link you can click and it will launch to the web page.

How you get the feeds is up to you. There are services that allow you to get it all on a web page. There are applications you can install. I have heard that Outlook will handle RSS feeds but I cannot confirm this.

I get my RSS feeds via a dedicated application for the Mac called NetNewsWire - and it's a terrifically cool app.

How do you know if there is an RSS feed on a web page? Most pages will display the 'rss icon' on the URL address space - that's the orange cube behind Vachel's head. Other pages will have a link titled 'RSS Feed' or something similar. Click that icon or link and your browser should just know what to do with it.

I like Google Reader, myself. A good summation, though.

I like Google Reader, myself.

To each their own. I like the discrete app because once in a while I'm offline but working on my laptop - and the stuff is still there. Granted I can't do much beyond 'read' but there we are.

It's the noise a growling snake makes when you step on it.

Basically, if you add this feed as one of your livejournal "friends", every day the strip plus my blog will appear on your friends list when you check it. If you don't want to go to ltitledee.net all the time.

But I like going to littledee.net. I like making my phone calls from a landline too. And I like making my own baked beans. And if I had a bow and arrow I'd hunt my own dinner. Oh yeah, you should become a meat eater. It's yummy.

I think that is an excellent reason not to use rss feeds. So far, I haven't gone that way either.

but some people like them, and I understand the convenience. So I does what i does.

And meat. Perhaps one day ye shall be in my tummy once stroked down upon by dan's arrow.

Thanks! Dee is a daily habit but once in a while I get busy and forget .. and there it will be for me, all wrapped up in XML.

Coolness.

I love being flisted! :ahem:

Yeah, that castle was an old church as well, back when they kinda had to defend themselves from the roving hoards. Very pretty too. :)

heh. Meeee tooooo. Get an odd feeling of squeee and then immediately afterwards, "who the heck is that??" whenever i get friended ;D

Ohman, a churchcastle! How loverly! One of my biggest dreams is getting to check out all the castles in the UK but who knows if it'll ever happen... as tied down as i am to this one spot at this time, it doesn't seem likely, but one can never speak for what the future brings!
